about

Dear friends and family,

Thank you for listening to this music! I recorded the bones of these songs at home during the first few weeks of the pandemic lock-down in Portland, Oregon, in early April 2020. This was a time of a lot of anxiety and fear, and also (for me) languid days without work that marked a strange kind of return to the values of home, nature, and the meaning of love. In many ways, this period of time was a period of intense personal transformation. So much has happened since that month, including the difficult and incredibly powerful protest movement that has been sustained in our city since the murder of George Floyd and now the approaching election. I beg you to vote, as we need all of our voices now more than ever.

We are all especially looking to our young people for the change we need to see in our nation. In "How to Plant a Garden", I sing, "It's the young ones who will have to fight when they are older/is it wrong to feel small in the face of it all?". In that spirit, we have decided that all profit from this album will be donated to Next Up Oregon, an organization working to empower young people within the democratic process, and mobilizing young voters.

Visit the Next Up website here for more information: nextuporegon.org/about-us/

Thank you for listening, and for contributing what you are able. Costs for recording this music were remarkably low, as this was an act of love for all involved. The musicians who made this beautiful music hail from dispersed parts of the country, where we were able to record remotely during COVID. It was such a blessing and a joy to work with them all in creating the full landscapes of each of these songs. We are grateful to be able to use the profits from this music to support young voters of Oregon in creating change!

With love,

Elizabeth

**lyrics for 10,000 Miles are heavily based on the Appalachian song recorded in America by the Carter Family - The Storms are On the Ocean. 1800s- Variant of the large "True Lover's Farewell" folk song family (Child #76) originating in British Isles ("The Lass of Roch Royal") also called: "Fare You Well, My Own True Love" and the "Ten Thousand Miles."
